Core concepts

Audits (offline, close the loop)

Planned. Offline scored audits whose findings become verified fixes.

Planned Status: not built yet. Audits, audit templates, photo proof and corrective actions are planned; this page describes the design.

SignaUnit audits are designed to close the loop: a finding becomes an action, the fix is shown, then verified.

Audit templates Planned

An audit template is the checklist a field consultant uses on a visit. Templates are versioned like objectives: editing a template in use creates a new version, so past results stay comparable.

Each item has:

  • A question or standard, written as a customer-facing outcome where possible, for example “the current seasonal promotion is displayed as specified” or “every new review has a reply”.
  • A scoring type: pass/fail, a scale, or a value.
  • A weight, used for the audit score.
  • An optional severity for findings.

Items score the unit, never a named employee. Keep people out of audit photos. Brand standards are about the result a customer experiences, not about how an owner’s staff are deployed.

Running an audit offline Planned

Audits run on iPhone and are designed for places with poor or no signal:

  1. Open the unit and start an audit from a template. Everything needed is already cached on the phone.
  2. Work through the items, scoring and adding notes. Attach photos of results where useful.
  3. Finish the audit. It’s saved on the phone straight away.
  4. When the phone is back online, the audit and its photos upload in the background.

Photo capture is built to be dependable: you can take a photo or pick one from the camera roll, attach several at once, and photos are compressed on the phone and queued with automatic retry. A quiet “will sync” mark shows anything still waiting. See Offline sync.

On the web, audits can be viewed and verified, but not run.

From finding to fix Planned

Any item that doesn’t meet the standard becomes a finding, with its score, severity and any photos. Findings can turn into corrective actions:

Step Who What
Open Field consultant Creates the corrective action from the finding, with a due date
Owned Franchise owner The action is owned by the owner, who decides how it gets done in their business
Fixed Franchise owner The owner marks it fixed and attaches a photo of the fixed result
Verified or reopened Field consultant or HQ Checks the result and verifies it, or reopens it with a reason

The corrective action is always owned by the franchise owner. SignaUnit doesn’t assign the work to a member of the owner’s staff, and HQ verifies the outcome, at the next visit or from the metric, rather than inspecting how the work was done.

Scorecards Planned

Audit scores and corrective-action status feed the unit’s scorecard, alongside its priorities. HQ sees audit results in the rollup by region and franchisee, and field consultants see open and overdue corrective actions on their follow-up lists.

Good practice

  • Keep templates short. An audit nobody finishes doesn’t help anyone. Score what matters to customers and to the unit’s results.
  • Link findings to priorities when they’re about the same outcome, so the follow-through and the audit tell one story.
  • Verify from data when you can. If a finding is about review replies, an imported metric is a better check than a second visit.
  • Use the exception path. If a standard doesn’t fit a unit’s format, say so and record why.
